Zsolt Sütó is rightly famed as one of Slovakia’s most revered and influential natural winemakers. His orange wines are perhaps more well known, but here’s his Frankovka Modra (aka Blaufränkisch). And it’s a delight. The nose feels herbaceous and filled with cherry fruit, and the way this drinks is perfection. There’s a typically Slovakian feeling of lightness and freshness, yet the core of this wine is solid and ripe. The fruit is bright, very youthful yet there’s a feeling of depth – and potential. This can easily age for a few years.
Then again, it’s so much fun right now, why wouldn’t you?
