Typically featherlite and vivacious for this young winery, their Frankovka Modra opens with cranberry and sage aromas. The palate is pure unadorned fruit, displaying the nervy, bright character that I know and love in their wines. Chill this down and you feel a slight tannic prickle, but as it warms to 14 or 16C, those tannins disappear and the texture is soft and silky.
Given its relative maturity (a three year old, at the time of tasting), not only is this brilliantly fresh, but it has also gained a little in depth – there’s some pleasing funk, in the manner of a Loire Cab Franc, which adds real interest.
