Who knows what the sistas have against vowels, but this Blfrnksch is just great, so I forgive them. They say it’s fresh and uncomplicated. I disagree. Blaufränkisch is always complicated, and here it is not remotely dumbed down – and that’s why I love it.
The typical sour black cherry character is there aplenty, with a tight, reductive quality that is just so refreshing and mouth-watering.
There’s some wet earth and dried herb aromas on the nose that add to the fun.
The wine was matured in used barriques, but thankfully there is no perceptible oak influence in terms of flavour. Just pure fruit – hurrah!
