Aged in used barrels where flor yeast developed, this Viognier, Chenin and Grenache Bland blend is bright and energetic with lifted notes of citrus oils and the flor quite evident with that very particular briney rasp. If you’ve ever tasted the oxidative style “sur voile” wines from Chateau Chalon in Jura (or Vin Jaune), you’ll recognise the profile immediately. The nose might be a bit ‘love hate’ – perhaps too close to dirty socks for some. But for Vin Jaune lovers this will be heaven.
The flor influence is nicely balanced on the palate, not dominating but just adding further salty lift to a wine that is already pretty turbo charged in the acidity department. Certainly one for thrill-seekers, and something that craves some fatty food to offset it.
