I’ve been impressed with the pure, fruity reds from this small family producer in the Little Carpathians. But this carbonic macerated Blauer Portugieser isn’t Vlad Magula’s best work. The nose charms, with plenty of red cherry and raspberry notes, but there’s a smoky, rather green finish that distracts.
It’s certainly fresh and juicy on the palate, albeit tasting perilously close to fruit juice rather than wine. And there’s a slight lack of stability on the finish (yep, our four legged friends become evident after the bottle’s been open for a couple of hours)
Overall, just a bit raw and unripe.
