It’s always great to taste back vintages from João Tavares de Pina. They show a great deal of consistency, and demonstrate the Dão’s abilities to produce very serious, ageworthy reds to maximum effect.
This 2002 is pretty evolved but in good shape, with a dusty cellar character on the nose, roasted herbs, brine and grilled strawberry. There are some roasted, woody notes that remind me a bit of aged Colares.
Still very lively and with nice structure, this is a fascinating glimpse back in time.
