This big blend from major biodynamic producer Gerard Betrand has a gorgeous golden pink hue. The nose is fairly restrained, but the palate unleashes a full-on tutti-frutti assault. It’s certainly ripe, and filled with apricot and peach, but feels a bit confected – a wine made in the cellar, not in the vineyard.
The skin contact has definitely added concentration and intensified the fruit flavours, but the wine seems simplistic.
It also doesn’t really fit my idea of an orange wine, being made with a fair amount of intervention including the addition of selected yeasts, filtration and fining.
