This 12 month macerated gem is a consistent favourite of mine, from winemaker Matjaz Certrtic. The aromas are beguiling – the autumnal, stewed fruits are present (plums, apples) but with a sensation of sage and a feeling of freshness too. The palate grips you by the neck, with thrilling tartness and assertive but utterly well bred tannins in their posh Sunday clothes. Laser sharp and bone dry, yet the texture gives balance – this isn’t austere. Wonderful stuff.
