Tinhof Erwin – Pinot Blanc Ried Golden Erd 2017

Rather restrained on the nose, some herbal hints. Attractive notes of citrus and honey, but also some vegetal/oak contributed elements that threaten to take this out of balance. Lacks a bit of youthful vigour fruit, which one would expect right Read more

Tinhof Erwin – Neuburger Ried Golden Erd 2017

Very open on the nose, apple pie and sliced pear aromas. Tight fruit with lovely acids and a wet stone/salty finish – long, refreshing and full of potential. Still fairly monothematic at this point, yet the finish is long.

Nehrer – Chardonnay Ried Krainer 2017

Burgundian nose with that wonderful combination of gunflint and a hint of chamomile or cottonwool – a young, reductive yet characterful Chardonnay. Quite lifted and mineral on the attack, with spicy orchard fruit. Only a slightly sweet finish (hint of Read more

Esterházy – Chardonnay Ried Lama 2017

Odd and slightly cooked nose, some fresh apple slices, Good attack but tails off very rapidly into an unfocused and slightly alcoholic finish. Not delivering at the price point at all.

St. Zehetbauer – Chardonnay Ried Steinberg 2017

Wood seems to have played too much of a starring role here. Dries out and goes very vegetal on the finish (with a butterscotch hint). The nose is attractively spicy with a tinge of smoked honey.

Prieler – Pinot Blanc Ried Haidsatz 2017

Youthful and airy nose, with ripe pear and apple fruit. Quite concentrated on the palate, and feels a little alcoholic on the finish. Great nose and attack, but lacking poise right now. Feels a bit overworked.

Sommer – Grüner Veltliner Ried Himmelreich 2017

Pithy green pepper and honey aromas, very open and expressive on the nose. Grabs the attention with spine-tingling acidity, and there are subtle backnotes of herbs and minerals too. Nice peppery note on the finish, full of character and super Read more

Markus Altenburger – Chardonnay Ried Jungenberg 2017

Candied fruit chunks, candied pear on the nose, hint of chamomile – adds pleasing rusticity/wildness. Lacks a little get up and go – overly broad for the lowissh acidity. But there is plenty of depth and character here.
